Concerned about the who, what, wheres and how much regarding the Chinese Art of Placement? This article examines common perceptions and misconceptions about the practice.

Many people seem to have misconceptions about Feng Shui. Perhaps they have read books on the subject which were contradictory or have spoken to different people, all with different perceptions on the subject. Here are just a few misconceptions about this ancient art that you might have:

Quality Feng Shui consultations by a well trained Practitioner are very expensive. This is usually more of a myth then a truth. As a matter of fact, Feng Shui is intended to help everyone and many consultants seek to do just that by keeping their prices within a price range for all clients.

A Feng Shui Consultant has to have earned a Certificate or have gone to school to be called a “Feng Shui Consultant.” There are currently no standards in place for Consultants to have attended any courses; anyone can actually put up a web site saying they are a consultant when they may in fact know very little about the subject. A qualified consultant will have attended a school renowned for their teaching skills. Energy is not a tangible object and is difficult, if not impossible to be transmitted through “online” courses. Some schools do offer private, one on one phone courses which are extremely helpful.

Feng Shui is just “New Age Malarkey.” Actually, the art of Feng Shui is defined as “The MINDFUL art of placement and has been determined to be between 3 to five thousand years old. These beliefs are not new, they have been around for many, many years.

Only one school of Feng Shui is correct or will work for you. This is not true. Feng Shui is meant to help assist you in living in harmony and balance in all areas of your life through your surroundings. The widely held belief that the energy of your surroundings has a deep and profound impact on every area of your life is true. Many different consultants offer different methods that have been used through the ages and done with Mindful Intent, all or a combination of several will help you to achieve what you are seeking in your life.

The Blessings are not important or may interfere with my religion. Neither is true. What is known as “Transcendental Blessings” have also been around for thousands of years and were meant to only be passed down from Mentor to student by word only. Feng Shui was not supposed to be put into a written form as is considered a sacred art. These blessings are non denominational and are truly an important part of a consultation.

A new home should always have a consultant see it prior to purchase. While it is important to have a consultation after moving in to a new home, if the consultant is knowledgeable in different methods of Feng Shui, there is nothing that cannot be easily or inexpensively corrected. Prospective buyers should find a home they LOVE first and foremost; a qualified consultant can be called in prior to moving in or just after to remove any possible “predecessor energy” and assist them in choosing colors, correcting anything that may need to be addressed and assisting with placement for the best energy flow.

Follow ups with your consultant aren’t important. This is a misconception. Follow ups with your consultant are vital to the outcome of a consultation to assure proper changes have been made and so they can see what is going on in your life since the consultation. You and your consultant working together for the best possible outcomes are essential as the energy is intensified by both your Intentions. Keep a dialogue going for some determined amount of time and stick with it.

Things will turn around overnight. This may or may NOT be the case. For some people who have had a consultation, things DO seem to change right away, for others it takes much longer. No one can promise you the out come of a consultation but remembering that Feng Shui is a process for some is important.

Feng Shui Consultants can promise to help you with apparitions, spirits, money issues, relationships, health, etc. No one can promise the outcome of a consultation, there are too many variables in each and every one such as the intensity of Intention, the actual changes that were made and many other factors. Feng Shui consultants can help with a variety of issues in your life but can never make promises as to the actual outcomes.

You need to believe in Feng Shui in order for it to work. Not necessarily. Changes that are made in a person’s surroundings have an impact on them and eventually, they will feel or notice a difference. Many skeptics have changed their minds after a consultation.
