Feng Shui can help you locate areas that are adding to your stress in your life. You can identify these areas and correct them using simple Feng Shui principles.
According to the International Feng Shui Guild, sha chi is described as “killing breath…refers to all types of negative, harmful, and inauspicious energy.” Sha chi can be creating disharmony in your home. The following are major causes for sha chi:
Clutter
There are many types of clutter: Physical clutter, sound clutter and technology clutter are but a few.
Physical clutter: Physical clutter, such as piles of papers, dirty dishes, dirty clothes, half-done projects, is one of the most pervasive causes of disharmony in a home. Representing obstacles in your life, clutter can make you feel ineffectual and powerless.
Cure - When dealing with clutter it's so easy to feel overwhelmed. Vow that you will go through one pile today or one drawer. If the clutter is very bad, you may need to hire an expert to help you clear out and organize.
Sound clutter : This refers to the noise level you experience in your home, be it from internal or external forces.
Cure - If internal noice level is causing stress, try to work out a compromise with the appropriate party to reduce your exposure to the noise. If external, look for ways to noise-proof your home or camouflage the offending noise with more pleasing sounds (for instance, water fountain or soothing music).
Technology clutter: Many of us have a hard time disconnecting with work through blackberries, cell phones and email.
Cure - Establish some limits so that you can create boundaries between work and home life.
Rushing Chi
Rushing chi occurs when energy is allowed to move unimpeded and therefore, accelerates. Here are some examples of rushing chi:
Placement of your home in relation to roadway: If your home is placed very close to a busy road you hear and feel the traffic moving switfly by.
Cure - Find ways to block the visual and auditory sensations of the traffic, such as double-pane window, insulation, window coverings and more pleasing sounds in your immediate environment.
The placement of stairs: if your stairway is directly in line with your front door, the energy entering your home will rush up to the second floor, causing disturbance in the quiet, personal spaces of the home, perhaps distburbing sleep. If your stairs are set back at least six feet from the door, then there is no need to place a cure.
Cure - A crystal ball hung on ceiling between front door and bottom step, or a runner going up the stairs, will soften and slow down the rushing shi.
Front and Back doors of home are in line: if your front and back doors are aligned, the chi entering your home will quickly rush out the back door, causing disturbance in your home and not allowing the chi, representing opportunity, to stay in your home.
Cure - If room allows, a piece of furniture or large object placed in the space between the doors will work well. Otherwise, hang a crystal ball from the ceiling between these doors.
Poison Arrows
External "Arrows:" This occurs when there is an offending structure outside of your home, such as high tension wires, electrical box, water tower, or a cemetery. Even an angled neighbors roof pointing at your front door can be considered a poison arrow.
Cure - A popular cure is a Bagua mirror placed above your front door facing out. These mirrors can be purchased online or in stores selling Chinese feng shui items.
Internal "Arrows:" This can occur with a square column, a 90-degree angle wall jutting into a room or a large piece of furniture "points" at a bed, dining table or desk.
Cure - Soften this edge with plants or fabric draped over the offending edge.
Conflicting Doors: This occurs when two doors hit each other when opened. This feature can create conflicts within a household.
Cure - Rehang one of the doors to eliminate the conflict.
Toxins
ElectroMagnetic Stress: Especially important in the bedroom, being the space for rejuvination, this occurs with the presence of electronic equipment, a headboard on wall that contains a circuit box (either above or below your bedroom), and with natural geopathic stress. (A skilled dowser can detect geopathic stress).
Cure - If possible, remove electronic equipment or plug into a power strip that can be turned off at night. Move bed to a wall without circuit box or to space outside of geopathic stress.
Other Toxins: This includes known toxins, such as lead and arsenic, as well as off-gassing from building products and paints, furniture, carpets, granite, and everyday cleaning solutions.
Cure - Be sure to have plenty of good ventilation. If possible, purchase non-toxic products in your household. Some great websites to visit for non-toxic solutions, products, and services are the Green Home Guide and Treehugger.
