Applying the principles of feng shui in the bedroom can help create good fortune for everyone who resides in a home.
Just as applying the principles of feng shui in the entranceway, which is the gateway to a home; feng shui in the kitchen, which is the heart of a home; and feng shui in the main living area, which is where family and friends gather, is important for a family’s overall luck and prosperity, so is the application of these principles in the bedroom. The average person spends approximately one-third of his or her life in the bedroom, so the more attention one pays to this room, the greater will be one’s fortune. The things that one must take into consideration, however, are the size of the room, the colors used, the placement of doors and windows, and the positioning of furniture, especially the bed, along with other objects. Ideal Bedroom Size for Positive Feng ShuiAlthough a room’s size isn’t as important as the overall quality of its chi (positive energy), if it is too large, this allows too much space for the chi to circulate, resulting in the room’s feeling overly active and inferring with the occupants ability to relax. On the other hand, if a room is too small, its chi cannot circulate freely enough, resulting in a feeling of stuffiness and confinement. These conditions can be countered, however, by decorating a small room in pale colors and light fabrics to make it appear more open and airier, and decorating a large room in darker hues and heavier fabrics to make it appear less open and cozier. Placement of Windows and Doors for Positive Feng ShuiWhen designing a bedroom or considering purchasing a home, people need to consider the placement of its doors and windows. Doors should not be positioned where the chi flowing through them will have to stream directly across the bed because this will result in disturbed sleep for anyone lying on the bed. Nor should a door be positioned so that the bed will have to be placed with its foot pointing directly at that door because this symbolizes death (the dead are traditionally removed feet first from a room). Windows should not be positioned so that the only place one can put the bed is against them or directly underneath them because such placement results in feelings of insecurity and restlessness in sleepers. Neither should the only place for the bed be where its foot faces a window, nor, if a room contains a skylight, should it be positioned so that the bed will have to rest immediately beneath it because such placement creates feelings of anxiety and nervousness. Taking a Feng Shui Reading for Bed PlacementSince placement of the bed is the most important consideration when furnishing a room, people should consider taking a feng shui reading before deciding exactly where the bed should be placed since doing so will help identify the most positive areas for chi. In order to take a reading, stand in the main doorway with a compass, looking out not into the room, and determine what direction the door faces. Then go to the middle of the room and delineate the other compass directions:
When it comes to applying this information to the bed’s placement, if the most positive areas, for example, are east, southeast, and south of the middle of the room, the bed should be placed so that its head points in one of these three directions. Positioning of Other Bedroom FurnishingsWhen it comes to the placement of other furnishings as well as objects in the bedroom, certain principles should be applied.
Of course, there are other tenets to the art of feng shui, but if homeowners keep the above principles in mind when designing and decorating bedrooms, they are well on their way to ensuring the good fortune of everyone who resides in the home. Sources:
